How to Get to Campuhan Rigde Walk, Ubud, Bali

When it comes to exploring Bali, most of the people will think about the beach. Yes, you can find beautiful beaches with either a beautiful sunrise or a stunning sunset, like everywhere. For those who cannot stand with the heat, humidity, or sweat, there are also some beautiful places that you can visit on the north side of the island, Ubud. Known for its fresh air, Ubud offers you a lush view of rice fields and a peaceful valley. If you are seeking a place with a sense of tranquility, Ubud is the right one.

Campuhan Ridge Walk

There are a lot of places that pretty, jaw-dropping, and amazingly captivating to see in Ubud. However, if you just want to have a casual walk and enjoy nature without long trekking (cause most of the places in Ubud does), there is one place where you can do a morning or afternoon stroll on the top of the hill called Campuhan Ridge Walk.

Campuhan Ridge Walk

Located around 27 KM away from Denpasar, you can reach Campuhan Ridge Walk in only 45 to 60 minutes by riding a motorbike or driving a car. The place is located around the tourism area, so it is quite easy to get there. However, I suggest you to not stick to the Google Maps automated route for direction. It guided me to small streets like crazy, so I suggest you keep your eye on Map so you won’t get frustrated because of the route option. You need to find Warwick Ibah Villas and Suites to reach the start point for the trekking. Right next to the Warwick gate, on the left side, there is a small downhill narrow street where the trekking start point is located.

Thank God! There is no fee entrance for the trekking and parking fee (from my experience). I am not sure because there are two parking areas there. The first one is an empty lawn on the higher land, but the other ones located on the lower ground is a tourism college place. Yes, when there is no campus activity the place is turned into a parking space for visitors.

Before your trekking starts, make sure you have enough energy because it will take you about 1,5 KM long walk on the ridge. You may bring your own snacks, but please do not litter as there is no garbage bin or something up there. You may find some small shops selling food and also souvenirs by the finish point of trekking, so you can have your meals after the walk there.

The view from the top is surprisingly soothing. It is one of the best places to relax and blend with nature. However, it will be quite hot and humid by the middle of the day, but do not worry as you can find trees to take some rest while walking. I really suggest you to come during the golden hour in the morning or by the afternoon, so it will be around 7 to 9 or 3 to 5. The pictures that I show to you here were taken around 3 PM, and it is still quite hot up there.

Campuhan Ridge Walk is situated atop Gunung Lebah hill, and the place is really popular as it is a part of Hinduism religious story from RSI Markandeya. Markandeya is one of Hyang Jagatnatha descendants who is famous for its good appearance and knowledge. Based on the story, he is one Saint in Hinduism who was trying to find a light on his way to Bali. During his meditation and Yoga in Besakih, Markandeya saw a light and he decided to chase it. Then he arrived on a hill that is surrounded by woods, and then he continued to meditate and Yoga. Later on, he built a temple in the place where he did that. Located 2 KM on the southeast of the temple, Markandeya built another sacred temple called Gunung Lebah. The Gunung Lebah sacred temple was built for Yogis who would like to purify from all misfortune and to cleanse body and soul from havoc. From the story, we realize that Campuhan Ridge Walk is also part of a sacred place in Bali, so there are some restrictions when visiting this place such as; littering, using drugs and immoral activity.

Moving on, if you would like to have some rest you can visit some local small shops along the ridge walk. I came to one of the small shops to enjoy a glass of Banana juice, and the price is affordable as it only took me IDR 20,000,-. There is a lot of small shops here, but I decided to have the one with Batur mountain view as it looks so beautiful to see.

I finished my walk by going back to Gunung Lebah temple. There is a river, Wos river, down the temple where you can walk down to. You can explore around the river and find how peaceful it is down there and maybe do some rock balancing.

I personally recommend you to visit Campuhan Ridge Walk. Besides the part of the sacred Hinduism story, the view up here is really captivating with lush greenery fields and trees. Also, there is no ticket entrance to enjoy and blend with nature up here! So, would you like to come and have a walk here?
